Mini Session Details
Hey there mama! An impromptu 10 minute shoot with my girlfriends and their sons at my home studio shifted my original idea for my mini sessions. The shoot was effortless for all and it turned out dreamier than I could have imagined. And I would love to recreate this session for you and your babe(s). I’m running with it.
All of the images below are beautiful examples of what your mini session will look like. What makes these photo make my heart skip a beat;
-The natural bond between mother and child. I lightly guided them in poses and the rest unfolded naturally in front of my lens.
-If your child is young and still in diaper strip them down. I love showing off that creamy baby skin against your skin. I think that’s what I love most in these photos. If you have an older child a simple dress, jeans and tee, overalls, jumpsuit, chinos, sweats...whatever they’re comfortable in.
-I love how simple and effortless their outfits are...details on this later :)
-The light, it’s bright and warm. You don’t have to worry about this, I got that covered.
I am no professional when it comes to getting dressed, I wear sweatpants from high school with pizza stains and my gymnastic sweatshirt from middle school most days. But I do appreciate beautiful clothing, putting outfits together and treating yourself every once in a while. What I do know though is, color, which is the most important with my style of work. More on that later. :) As you are building your outfits please do not hesitate to send a picture or links my way to help you.
Mama: My biggest tip is; pick your outfit first and build from there. For this shoot I love the mom jean + white tank or white blouse look.
Jeans- Throw on a pair of your favorite cool mom jeans, a white/cream tank or a light colored button up/blouse. If you don’t have cool mom jeans, Madewell jeans are my favorite. Old Navy, Zara and H&M have some really nice jeans that are affordable and comfortable. I’ll share links with you below!
Button ups/blouses- Madewell also has white button ups and blouses that I love.
Tanks- Zara and H&M have awesome basic tanks.
-If jeans aren’t your thing, I understand. If you know me then you know that I love long flowy dresses or skirts.
Dresses; Doen and Christy Dawn are two of my favorite dress brands out there. They're pricey..I treated myself last year to one for my wedding. It’s Mother’s Day though right?! Treat yourself! Buy that special dress you have been eyeing, you deserve it!
-Jumpsuit/Overalls; if you’re feeling fun and you can rock this look, please do it!! I love this look!
Children: Keep things simple with them too. A solid onesie, a dress with minimal pattern. Overalls are really cute. Jumpsuits too. And you can never ever go wrong with a naked baby.
Newborns: A simple, soft onesie so we can see all of their beautiful fresh skin.
Shoes, keep them home ;) we're going barefoot!
One last thing before you move onto color, my friend Lauren, who is a motherhood blogger, wrote a very helpful post on What to Wear for Family Photos.
Below are examples of outfits from my impromptu shoot I did.

Madewell- all of their jeans, lets be honest. https://www.madewell.com/madewell_category/DENIMBAR.jsp
Zara- trying to keep this pretty but there are so many from zara so I'll just post the long links right below
These are just a few of my favorites. There are so many good ones!
is very important! Earth tone colors work the best with my work. They’re soft, they’re warm and it looks beautiful on all skin tones. For the mini session I would say to go for more of the lighter colors. Stay away from black or any other colors close to black. It's spring! Light & airy colors. I found these images on Pinterest and omgosh they are so perfect for outfits.

I think, you, mama, should spend the most on your outfit because when was the last time that you splurged on you? Besides, there are so many cute places to shop for kids that are affordable. Hi, Zara, Old Navy & Gap. Aside from those brands there is always Forever 21, I like to buy blouses, sweaters and dresses there, ASOS, they have everything you can think of and of course Nordstrom, Free People, Urban Outfitters and Anthropologie . I also like to use Polyvore when I am looking for something very specific. You type whatever it is you're looking for in the search box, "white maxi dress", and it scans all the stores on the web that carry white maxi dresses. How awesome! Below are a few brands that I am currently crushing over.
Images below are from the brands, not from me. :)
Well! I hope this was helpful :) remember feel free to contact me for any guidance, I am happy to help!
